Biography

I was born in Romania and lived 15 years under its communist, totalitarian regime. As I was growing up, in 1982, for example, Romania had the worst human rights record in Eastern Europe. The political training and propaganda was taught to children from preschool age. Every word, every action had to serve the regime. It was a time when all media had to serve the propaganda, all culture was used to control, manipulate and brain wash the individuals.

As a little girl, the moment I started school, they recognized in me a talent for writing and reciting and at the age of 9, I had already won the National Competition in Literary Creations and Reciting, in the National Festival “Song for Romania”, receiving the Laureate title and the presidential award. My talent was that of writing poetry, devotions, skits, stories for children, but I also had to recite them myself, being told “ your voice captures the hearts”.  I was on the radio, in festivals on the National Theatre stage and won many competitions in the field of Literary Creations. Children were used to worship, to glorify the president and the regime, so my talents were little tools used to fulfill this purpose…

It was a time when all the efforts were done to undermine the Christian teaching. The heart of communism is atheism: there is no God, no Creator, man is matter and has not an eternal soul. Even though I was little, with the simplicity of faith a child can have, I couldn’t believe that. No wonder Jesus said “…let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these….”( Mark 10:14). Just looking at my own heart, no one can ever measure, even poets, how much a heart can hold: the intense feelings, the deep thoughts, the fragile dreams… how can I be just matter?! Looking around me: a blossoming flower, a sunny sky, a quiet brook…there has to be a Creator behind all these and why can I not mention this at all?! God gives the purpose and reason for life, His words say: ” love each other as I have loved you…” (John 15:12 ), ”For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son , that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life..”( John 3:16).If we could at least mention God, we would make the world a better place…Torn between the outside ideology and my inner faith, I was hoping for a day when I could let the power of my heart burst out with no fear…

When freedom came, while a full time dental student I initiated an inspirational radio program, “Traveling toward your heart” where through poetry and devotions, with music in the background I tried to dispel suffering, loneliness in the hearts of people and spread the truth that nowhere in the world can we find another heart beating for us like the heart of Jesus…

I come from a poor background but I have the richest spiritual heritage worth of being retold and remembered .My father was the director of an orphanage, so I know first hand that suffering is never more acutely felt than when seen in the eyes of children, eyes that have seen more tears in a few years than any human should bare in a lifetime. My father lost his father when he was 11 years old .He was shot by the communist authorities, in a small village in the Carpathian Mountains, on an Easter morning, on the way to church, leaving six children behind…

During Dental School, seeing all the needs, the children’s oral health status, I volunteered to work for the institutionalized children to improve their ability to eat, play, be happier, healthier in a place of broken dreams .As Mother Teresa used to say, “even if what we do is just a drop in the ocean, remember, the ocean would be less because of that missing drop..” My Oral Health Project-“R.O.A.D.S. of Hope”(Romanian Outreach and Dental Services) continues and some of the proceeds from the CD’s will be used for the project, for dental materials and instruments. The project is my greatest passion besides teaching the young generation how to keep their faith, in a time when God’s existence and righteousness is denied more and more. I have been blessed with the opportunity to speak to youth at various youth gatherings.

“We are all pencils in God’s hand. I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world…” (Mother Teresa)
